The Humble Hair Clip Trend

The 90s snap clips are back. Our once, childhood hair accessory are now dominating the fashion world. And we can't help but invest in this hair clip trend too.

Humble hair clips are somewhat of a renaissance over the past few months. If you haven't notice, both Jo & I have been wearing them on most of our ootds. From a plain silver hairclip Ariana Grande wore, to the statement bling diamante barrette that Selena Gomez was seen in, it's no doubt these hairpins are now everyone's favourite.

The embellished pearl pins are my to-go accessory. The bigger ones are actually great for gripping your bangs, giving it a delicate sweet stylist look. Jo also wore this pin with her wavy short hair.

We all know that Blackpink Jennie was also one of the first few who started this iconic hairpin bling in Korea. Jennie's method was by layering a mini row of small bobby pins, making it a major statement. Another way to style in these pins, would be the criss-cross halo technique. The X shaped can be pinned onto both sides of your hair. This technique adds a subtle hint of glimmer by rocking bedazzled bobbies in an easy way to tame flyaways.

The bigger pearl studded barrettes are perfect too! It compliments your outfits giving them a vintage overall look.

To keep your hair in place, and your the ends of your hair shiny and beautiful, Here are two must-have products on our list!

With that, we hope you're all set to collect some pretty pins this season! Because Jo & I have already started building up on our hairpin collection!

We Finally Understand How To Care For Our Hair

The other day, Jo & I shared our experience at Mithesalon on Instagram IGTV. Since then, we’ve been getting so many questions and requests regarding this new journey that we've embarked on recently.

We have been to many hair salons, and have been through many hairdressers previously. Some were good, others were bad. Thanks to Mithesalon, they completed changed our impressions on the previous salons that we've been to in the past, and it is everything we never thought it could be! We were able to spend half the day with our personal hairstylists, @mrjiajun and & @machitong.

Before I start, both Jo & I have a confession to make... We've actually never really known how to care for our hair until last week. We have always relied on our hairdressers in the past to style and take care of our hair. Consequently, we've never really learnt to do it ourselves.

If you're one who worries abour hair loss or thinning of hair, don't you worry. I, too, have been there. Just so you know, the build-up of chemicals and hair products that we often use can affect your hair PH and sebum production, leading to clogged pores, scalp inflammation and follicle damage. Excessive sebum causes pore clogging and malnutrition in the hair root which eventually results in weakening of hair growth, which can lead to hair loss.

On my first session at Mithesalon, they introduced me to their in-house scalp specialist, June, who examined the health of my scalp and hair using their hair scalp scanner. June diagnosed the causes of my recent hair concerns, such as hair fall, hair breakage, and hair thinning, and suggested me to go for a Renewal Light Treatment as I had clogged pores on my scalp.

Image (above) of the clogged pores on my scalp (Yes, I know, it's disgusting)

While Jo on the other hand, has oily & dead skin cells on her scalp that naturally falls off the scalp - even more when you scratch. She also went with the Renewal Light Treatment.

We were glad that we were chair buddies throughout a good two-hour session, and had an amazing time chatting with our hairstylists.

Here are 5 tips that we took away from JJ & Machi that day:

1. CONDITIONER BEFORE SHAMPOO

Most of us were taught to wash our hair, by using a shampoo first. Followed by a conditioner. Who knew that the other way around is actually a better formula for the washing method. A method that adds nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down, preventing hair breakage while you shampoo your hair. It also helps to achieve more voluminous hair.

2. KEEPING YOUR SCALP CLEAN

The only way to achieve healthy hair is to make sure that you have a clean and healthy scalp. Like the skin on your face, your scalp can get oily, which can lead to irritation and dandruff. A clean scalp will promote good cell turnover and promote healthy environment for optimal hair growth, which brings us to our next point.

3. BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR

I always wrap my hair with a towel after I step out of the shower. But it was only until JJ advised me that that was the wrong way to care for your hair, as the cotton-based towel causes friction on the hair, it is more prone to damaging the strands to the point where the hair breaks off. If you've ever had a blow dry from your hair stylist, you'll know the difference it makes to how your hair looks and feels. Therefore, you should always blow dry your hair! Remember not to hold your hair dryer over on one section of hair, you might want to keep it moving so that you don't overheat your hair and end up damaging them.

Here's the final outcome of our hair. What can we say? We absolutely loved it! Head over to our IG to watch our Light Renewal Treatment experience on our IGTV @jujujucloe & @jodiaarielle ! And of course, our scalp scanner image looked a lot better than before.

One week later, our hair is still wispy and soft as ever! Everyone wants beautiful healthy hair, but, just doing the treatment isn't enough. We all have to take great care of it before our next visit. Both Jo & I are so glad that we finally understand our hair and how to take good care of them. Thank you @mrjiajun and @machitong for reviving our damaged hair, and giving it a second chance!

Talk to you real soon, Ju.

What To Wear On Valentine's Day

It’s the season to feel loved again. If you’re heading out with your partner or date today, or even this weekend, and need some last minute outfit inspiration, don’t worry, we’ve gotcha back! Ju and I have pinpointed the six most common date-night scenarios, keep scrolling to check out our picks for your last minute valentine’s day date outfits! We hope that this post will put an end to that what-do-I-wear-dilemma.

1. The First Date

This is indeed the most crucial of them all. First dates are always the most stressful, but everything that you can ever dream of. Go for something unique in your closet! Ju & I are currently head over heels for tiered dresses. Quite honestly, the styling options are endless with a dress this good. I'm wearing Her Velvet Vase's, while Ju is wearing Love Bonito's.

Or dress in floral printed dresses. Dress from Kissablebella

2. Romantic Dinner

My go-to date night outfit would be an outfit that is elegant, flattering, and can exude confidence in me. For a fancy night out, Ju and I believes that you can never go wrong with a lady-like maxi dress, one with pretty details.

Ju wearing The Style Soiree

While I, on the other hand, prefer to wear a red dress with adds a vintage touch to my overall look. Pair your dress with the perfect heels, that makes you look taller than you actually already are!

Any closet worth it's weight knows that no wardrobe is complete without a little red number. It's a bold, yet classic statement piece. This kitschy-hued dress from Supergurl, is definitely one of to-go outfits for my dinner date at a restaurant.

3. A Walk In The Park

I love taking a stroll in the park, the best way to keep the date casual and romantic. Here are some outfits that we have selected for this perfect scenario. These outfits adds on a little vintage touch to it!

4. A Movie Date

As much as we love a dinner date somewhere fancy. Sometimes, we love a low-key movie night too - and no, we don't mean Netflix and chill. But, a real movie date. I love movies, especially the late nights ones, where there isn't many people around. Late night movies gives me the perfect reason to dress down. This round, I would definitely go for sweaters and pullovers, as theatres are the best places to catch a cold (unless he is ready to give you some warmth and love).

But of course, if you're not having it, you can always go for something a little more formal! Such as this pretty chiffon floral piece from MgpLabel

Pleated dress from OHVOLA

5. After Work Date

We don't know much about the working adults who have 9-5 office jobs on a daily basis. Nonetheless, we have still prepared some outfits that we think might be acceptable to wear in the office, and out after work. The wardrobe staples we all need to transition any outfit from day to night. We have all been there: When Ju & I both have presentations and meetings in the afternoon, but an evening function in the night (and going home to change after working isn't a possibility), here are some outfits that we wore during the month of an insane hustle work week.

6. A Simple Dinner

And of course, not forgetting the most common scenario, that obviously Ju & I are going to be in. Keep your look simple and refined, and wear a simple casual dress, be it lace or floral. Surely, Valentine's Day Outfit isn't complete without it's quintessential. Ju and I love to accessorise our outfits with cute vintage pins, and statement earrings.

CNY Isn't Over Yet.

We are terribly sorry for being this late in the game. But Chinese New Year visiting isn’t over yet. Today we'll be sharing with you guys some of our favourite looks this festive season. We both have a penchant for the oriental vibe, and it excites us to go the extra mile during this festive season, so here are some ways to add a touch of oriental chic to your CNY outfits if you're feeling a little uninspired about what to wear for Chinese New Year.

CNY isn't all about red. Jo went for a chinoiserie chic look in Fashmob 's porcelain blue print Trapeze Swing Dress. Bring on some bling to your hair by adding an embellished hair clip.

As you can tell, Jo loves printed dresses, she's wearing Love Bonito 's unique Aurora Layered Ruffle Dress that was sold out islandwide! It's no wonder why everyone bought it during the first hour when it launched. This classy occasion dress has a fun whimsical twist to it. The layering design features juxtaposing textured fabrics with ruffles aplenty. Definitely one of our favourite looks for this Chinese New Year.

Ju, on the other hand, fancies textile fabrics such as crochet. It's definitely a must have textile in your wardrobe. Here are our favourite outfits in crochet fabrics.

Left (Jo): MgpLabel | Cambrie Lace V Back Dress in Nude
Right (Ju): FMTP | Brimming with Happiness Crochet Dress in Baby Pink

Left (Jo): Fashmob | Bellamy Lace Dress in Seafoam
Right (Ju): The Closet Lover | Crochet Enchantment Dress in Wine

And of course, embroidered floral designs and floral printed fabrics are the perfect prints to grace through CNY visitings.

Next up, the highlight of this post, cheongsam, known as, qípáo. Jo and I have never worn qipao for CNY visitings before. It's no doubt that this year, qípáo was in trend. The brands that both Jo & I have worked with had so many collections with pretty qípáo that we couldn't say no to. Here are are our picks!

The Closet Lover | Ethel Floral Printed Qipao in Navy

3inute | Annette Embroidery Modern Cheongsam in Pink

The Closet Lover | Darina Embossed Qipao

Left (Jo's Mom): MgpLabel | Yin Lace Overlay Cheongsam in Navy
Right (Jo): Fayth Label | Chine Jacquard Cheongsam

If you’re not one to bust into cheongsam, but still want to honour the tradition of wearing oriental this Chinese New Year. We suggest plain fabric for a minimal dressing.

With that, enjoy that remaining days of CNY visiting!

Talk to you very soon,
Ju.
