We Finally Understand How To Care For Our Hair

The other day, Jo & I shared our experience at Mithesalon on Instagram IGTV. Since then, we’ve been getting so many questions and requests regarding this new journey that we've embarked on recently.

We have been to many hair salons, and have been through many hairdressers previously. Some were good, others were bad. Thanks to Mithesalon, they completed changed our impressions on the previous salons that we've been to in the past, and it is everything we never thought it could be! We were able to spend half the day with our personal hairstylists, @mrjiajun and & @machitong.

Before I start, both Jo & I have a confession to make... We've actually never really known how to care for our hair until last week. We have always relied on our hairdressers in the past to style and take care of our hair. Consequently, we've never really learnt to do it ourselves.

If you're one who worries abour hair loss or thinning of hair, don't you worry. I, too, have been there. Just so you know, the build-up of chemicals and hair products that we often use can affect your hair PH and sebum production, leading to clogged pores, scalp inflammation and follicle damage. Excessive sebum causes pore clogging and malnutrition in the hair root which eventually results in weakening of hair growth, which can lead to hair loss.

On my first session at Mithesalon, they introduced me to their in-house scalp specialist, June, who examined the health of my scalp and hair using their hair scalp scanner. June diagnosed the causes of my recent hair concerns, such as hair fall, hair breakage, and hair thinning, and suggested me to go for a Renewal Light Treatment as I had clogged pores on my scalp.

While Jo on the other hand, has oily & dead skin cells on her scalp that naturally falls off the scalp - even more when you scratch. She also went with the Renewal Light Treatment.

We were glad that we were chair buddies throughout a good two-hour session, and had an amazing time chatting with our hairstylists.

Here are 5 tips that we took away from JJ & Machi that day:

1. CONDITIONER BEFORE SHAMPOO

Most of us were taught to wash our hair, by using a shampoo first. Followed by a conditioner. Who knew that the other way around is actually a better formula for the washing method. A method that adds nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down, preventing hair breakage while you shampoo your hair. It also helps to achieve more voluminous hair.

2. KEEPING YOUR SCALP CLEAN

The only way to achieve healthy hair is to make sure that you have a clean and healthy scalp. Like the skin on your face, your scalp can get oily, which can lead to irritation and dandruff. A clean scalp will promote good cell turnover and promote healthy environment for optimal hair growth, which brings us to our next point.

3. BLOW DRY YOUR HAIR

I always wrap my hair with a towel after I step out of the shower. But it was only until JJ advised me that that was the wrong way to care for your hair, as the cotton-based towel causes friction on the hair, it is more prone to damaging the strands to the point where the hair breaks off. If you've ever had a blow dry from your hair stylist, you'll know the difference it makes to how your hair looks and feels. Therefore, you should always blow dry your hair! Remember not to hold your hair dryer over on one section of hair, you might want to keep it moving so that you don't overheat your hair and end up damaging them.

Here's the final outcome of our hair. What can we say? We absolutely loved it! Head over to our IG to watch our Light Renewal Treatment experience on our IGTV @jujujucloe & @jodiaarielle ! And of course, our scalp scanner image looked a lot better than before.

One week later, our hair is still wispy and soft as ever! Everyone wants beautiful healthy hair, but, just doing the treatment isn't enough. We all have to take great care of it before our next visit. Both Jo & I are so glad that we finally understand our hair and how to take good care of them. Thank you @mrjiajun and @machitong for reviving our damaged hair, and giving it a second chance!

Talk to you real soon, Ju.

  3. I will try that hair growth trick. This might just apply to curly hair, but I only shampoo twice a week, and less if I'm not being super active and gross, it keeps my hair from completely drying out. Thanks for all the tips!

  7. Most of us are well aware of the many health benefits that spirulina has to offer and silica for hair growth. After all, it has not earned the status of a fast emerging ‘superfood’ for nothing! In fact, a study has called it the nature's richest and most complete source of nutrition.
